Millbrook Resort awarded Oceania’s best golf hotel
Millbrook Resort has won two top prizes at the 2016 World Golf Awards, which celebrates and rewards excellence in golf tourism, world class courses and golf destinations.
The World Golf Awards, held in Portugal last month, named Millbrook as the winner of both Oceania’s and New Zealand’s best golf hotel awards. The Oceania region represents Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.
Millbrook Resort director of operations Brian Howie said: “We’re honoured to receive this award and to not only be recognised for our 27-hole championship golf course but also for our passion for hospitality and delivering first-class customer service.
“In 1993, the Ishii family set out to create a resort of international standing to be built in harmony with the land. This award is an endorsement of their vision and business strategy.”
The award comes ahead of the New Zealand Golf Open that will be hosted by Millbrook next March. The New Zealand Open is part of the PGA Tour of Australasia held in partnership with Japan Golf Tour. The event will see leading professional golfers from the Japan Golf Tour play the event.
Millbrook’s golf course was designed by two of New Zealand’s most renowned professional golfers.
The original 18-hole course was designed in 1993 by Sir Bob Charles and in 2009 an additional nine holes were designed by Greg Turner who also remodelled the 18-hole course.
This provides three interchangeable 18-hole course configurations set in spectacular alpine scenery against the backdrop of the Remarkables Mountain Range. Each of the nine-hole courses is named after local Queenstown landmarks — The Remarkables, The Arrow and The Coronet Nine.
In 2014 Millbrook acquired 66 hectares of land adjacent to the resort, which will enable further development of an additional nine holes that will provide even further options for guests and golfers.
This is the second time in the three years that the World Golf Awards have been running, that Millbrook has won New Zealand’s best golf hotel. Votes from the public and industry professionals determine the award recipients. A vote from an industry professional carries five times the weighting of a public vote.
Millbrook has also recently won New Zealand’s best resort spa at the 2016 World Spa Awards 2016 and has been recognised as New Zealand’s best luxury hotel at the 2016 World Luxury Hotel Awards.
Howie added: “These award wins demonstrate our success in achieving our vision for Millbrook to be not only the first choice of lifestyle resort, but a destination in itself.”
Millbrook is a five-star golf and lifestyle resort, in the Queenstown area. It offers luxury accommodation, a day spa, four restaurants, a 27-hole championship golf course, a health and fitness centre, conference facilities and real estate. It caters for on-site weddings, corporate retreats and conferences, as well as independent hotel guests and day visitors to the resort.
Millbrook wins international luxury hotel and spa awards
Millbrook Resort has won the luxury spa hotel award at the 2016 World Luxury Hotel Awards and been named New Zealand’s best resort spa at the 2016 World Luxury Spa Awards.
Millbrook resort director of operations Brian Howie said the resort had gone from strength to strength, and the team was delighted to be recognised by the awards, adding to numerous other awards and accolades received over the past few years.
“Our surrounding natural landscape, commitment to open space in and around the resort, and range of luxurious accommodation options, are what sets Millbrook apart,’’ Howie said.
“But we’re also focused on delivering first class customer service, as an essential part of meeting the expectations of guests seeking a bit of luxury.”
The spa at Millbrook was opened in 2001, and has undergone on-going expansion and development to meet local and guest demand.
