The World Amateur Golfers Championship (WAGC) is the world’s most prestigious tournament for amateur golfers. With five handicap divisions, amateur golfers have the opportunity to participate in a four day tournament against other international golfers of their skill level.

The WAGC starts off each year with qualifying and national finals before the five division winners head to the World Finals in October, this year to be held in Borneo, Malaysia. Previous world finals have been held in countries such as the USA, Turkey, Spain and South Africa.

2019 sees the WAGC heading into its 25th year and this will be the second year for a New Zealand team to be part of this fantastic event. Premium Golf NZ is the New Zealand partner for the WAGC and they will be hosting the following events this year.

Qualifying rounds:

- South Island Qualifying at Harewood Golf Club on March 17th

- North Island Qualifying at Pakuranga Golf Club on March 24th

The top 7 of each division will proceed to the National Final which will be held on April 14th at  Gulf Harbour Country Club. The entry fee which includes both the qualifying and national final is $165.00. The final division winners will receive a medal along with entry to the World Finals which includes economy air flights, 5 star accommodation and all meals at the WAGC.

In 2018, Premium Golf NZ led a team of five to the world finals and on debut, the New Zealand Team had unprecedented success with two division winners and one runner up.

Thomas Spearman-Burn from Miramar Links won the 0-5.4 division, Henry Gao from Titirangi Golf Club won the 5.5-10.4 division and Grant Whelan from the Royal Auckland and Grange Club came second in the 10.5-15.5 division.

As part of the WAGC, there is an invitational event run at the same time which allows any amateur golfer to be a part of and experience the tournament. This invitational is well attended with some countries sending up to 30 people along with their national representatives! Royalty, VIP guests and business CEOs often play in the invitational.

Premium Golf NZ will be leading a tour to Malaysia including the WAGC and the invitational on October 12th-26th.  Places are already filing up so don’t miss the chance to be part of history!
