Phil Tataurangi shares his thoughts on Golden Oldies World Golf Festival four course challenge

Phil Tataurangi

Phil Tataurangi

Eisenhower team and individual winner, 2002 PGA winner, international golf commentator and proud Kiwi, Phil Tataurangi shared some special insights in a video on the courses to host the Golden Oldies World Golf Festival four course challenge in April 2018.
Phil has played the four very different courses a number of times over the years and recounted his personal thoughts on his favourite holes on each course along with a tip or two on how to play them.
Terrace Downs is in a truly wonderful setting, according to Phil.  High up in the Rakaia Gorge at the foothills of the Southern Alps’ splendid Mt Hutt, the stunning location of this Scottish highlands style course can be a real distraction.
Thirty minutes north of Christchurch is the Pegasus Golf and Sports Club, one of the newer courses in Canterbury.  Phil noted that, like Terrace Downs, nature is one of the features of the Christine Kerr-designed course, warning golfers to be wary of the nor’easter wind which can prove challenging.
Harewood Golf Course is one for golfers who like to hit straight.  Phil described Harewood as a parklands style course, renovated by Greg Turner and Scott McPherson about five years ago and boasting 18 brand new tees.
History and heritage are the real features of the Christchurch Golf Club, the second oldest in New Zealand dating back to 1873.  The club has hosted NZ Open Championships, Amateur Championships and the 1992 Eisenhower Cup at which the New Zealand team, including Phil, finished second.
